Eurodam and Maasdam Together at Sydney

Captains Andre van Schoonhoven and Jeroen van Donselaar together again for the first time. When asked what it felt like when he became a captain Aug. 22, Andre explained that while it took 20 years — half of his life — he is very happy to have accomplished what he has achieved at 40 years old.

While visiting Captain van Schoonhoven, Captain van Donselaar recognized a door panel he made when he served on the Maasdam as chief officer in 1994!

In the spirit of sisterhood, Eurodam, which was alongside the pier, loaned two tenders to Maasdam, which was at anchor, to ensure a smooth flow of guests between ship and shore.

The Sydney Fiddle is the largest Céilidh Fiddle in the world. It is located on the pier and was commissioned Jan. 28, 2005, for the opening of Sydney’s Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion. The fiddle stands just over 55 feet tall, weighs eight tons, is made from painted steel and was fabricated over eight months by Sydney artist and welder Cyril Hearn.

Stories from the sea, past and present

I remember that Fiddle when we did our first cruise on the Maasdam. We are now going on our fourth cruise. Wouldn’t sail on any other line but Holland America, the service is so good and the people so friendly.
Real thanks Dorothy. It’s lovely experience and be a good advice of chosing place for other’s holiday
