Carsten Korch, Chief Editor and Founder of Peru this Week, is currently sailing aboard Veendam’s 21-Day South America and Antarctica Holiday Voyage with his family. While aboard the ship he will chronicle his cruising experience for us on the blog. Enjoy!
Meet Barbara Przybys, personal trainer on board ms Veendam, born in Poland in 1983. She earned her bachelor’s degree in economics in 2005. In 2006 she left her parents and three brothers to move to Belgium to sell fully-equipped offices around the world for Regus. While living in Belgium she began to train fitness in her spare time and quickly learned that she really loved it. She signed up for a full-time one year program in Functional Fitness Training where she took several courses related to nutrition, the body and the mind. She later worked for two fitness chains in Holland for almost three years where she added Dutch to her language skills. She already speaks English, Polish, Russian and German. Right now she is taking Spanish classes which definitely will be another asset for her in the future.
Carsten: You told me you have your own personal training business back in Poland but what made you choose to start working on board HAL?
Barbara: I realized I needed to see the world before getting settled in Poland, so I applied for a job with HAL and got it after having passed the one month intense training program in London.
Carsten: So what exactly do you provide the guests on board?
Barbara: I offer them various free classes and seminars related to stretching, abs, total body conditioning, detox, nutrition, metabolism, back pain relief and also one-on-one programs which our guests can order if they want to.
Carsten: What other exercise services are available?
Barbara: Many of our guests buy yoga, Pilates, bootcamp and cycling programs to stay fit throughout the cruise. There are so many culinary temptations and most guests don’t want to gain too much weight on board. Even I have to train every day to stay fit at all times.
Carsten: Are you the only person offering exercise classes and seminars on board?
Barbara: No, there are others. On this cruise we also have a French girl named Claire who offers one-mile walks, meditation classes, Tai Chi, water aerobics classes and golf and table tennis tournaments.
Carsten: What are your plans for the future?
Barbara: I would like to continue working on board HAL for a few more years. I like working in an international environment where I have the opportunity to visit more countries, explore new cultures and learn new languages. However I will return to my original dream and start my own business.
