Cruise Diary: Day at Sea & Tamarind Dinner

Submitted by: Natalia

Mike Faust, editor of Cruise Currents, recently sailed on board Eurodam for a seven-night eastern Caribbean cruise and chronicled his trip for us. What’s your favorite Caribbean port? Let us know in the comments below!

Cruising the Eurodam – Day 6 – At Sea

Well, we are now down to the final day at sea. I’ll make this brief because, honestly, I just relaxed most of the day and did nothing. Anyway, this morning I had the chance to sit down with Captain Emiel de Vries, Hotel Director Stan Kuppens, Cruise Director Jason Venner and the other writers on this sailing. We discussed the Dancing With The Stars At Sea program and how the show affects the operations of the ship and daily activities. We also discussed how the Eurodam is prepared to enter new markets and the kind of clientele the ship must be marketed for. I will have a full article early next week detailing the entire “Q & A.”

Eurodam Day at Sea

Later that night, we had the opportunity to dine in the final specialty restaurant we had not dined in yet– Tamarind. Tamarind is Holland America’s Asian restaurant. Tamarind can only be found on Holland’s two newest ships, Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam. For starters I enjoyed Streetside Pot Stickers which was a display of lobster, pork and chicken dumplings that had been fried and served with a special sweet dipping sauce. For the main course I decided on the Asia Pacific Hot Pot. This dish was basically a seafood dish that featured shrimp, scallops, crab legs, squid, clams and basa; all in a special lemon-esque broth. It was very delicious and I enjoyed the meal very much. While it was offered, I did not try the sushi in the restaurant, but I wanted to note that Tamarind does offer a fairly extensive and most-likely delicious sushi menu. The meal was finished off with chilly and delicious mango sorbet with a light drizzle of chocolate on the top.

As I mentioned before, this was my final specialty restaurant on Eurodam and I intend to publish an article detailing, reviewing and comparing each specialty restaurant on board. I hope to have this article published on Cruise Currents by Wednesday the 27th. I appreciate your patience with my more extensive articles, but I promise you that the wait will be worth it. I have an extensive list of articles as well as an overall review planned for the next week. Also, keep a look out for my final article which will be published on Saturday night instead of tomorrow morning due to early debarkation. Trust me, you won’t want to miss the final article.
