When travelers book a cruise to Norway, they know they’ll be in for some spectacular scenic cruising.

A cruise ship can travel deep into the heart of the fjords, where waterfalls adorn the surrounding cliffs and charming villages pop up at the most unexpected locations.

Often photos don’t adequately capture the beauty of the region where the scale is often too large to fit into the frame, but the ones below beautifully show what’s waiting on a cruise to Norway.

We boarded Euordam on Aug 8, 2013, and our first seven days were the Norwegian Fjords. After leaving Flam the ship sailed to the Hardanger Fjords and we enjoyed magnificent scenery. Here are my best shots. — Liz Lewis

Guest Elise D. also took a Norway cruise last season and snapped some beautiful photos during her scenic cruising around the area.

I was most looking forward to sailing in Geirangerfjord because I had heard how incredible the scenery would be. After a very foggy morning we got lucky and the skies cleared for a beautiful sailaway from Geiranger back out of the fjord. What a memorable day! — Elise

During our call at Alesund, we took a tour to explore Hjorundfjord, a 20-mile-long fjord that was beautifully eerie on the cloudy day. It was breathtaking. — Guest Elise

Have you cruised to Norway with Holland America Line? Which fjord did you find the most photogenic?

  1. We’re book for 14 day Norway for August.15th, 2015 for our 40 anniversary. Can’t wait!!

  2. Vraag.
Wat is de mooitse tijd van het jaar om een Cruises naar Noorwegen te maken
    we hebben plannen voor 2015

  3. Joop, it’s personal preference, but summer in Norway is spectacular and weather is a bit nicer than in fall. Hope to see you onboard!

  4. Just returned from a cruise on HAL Ryndam and could not be more pleased with the trip. We sailed from Dover (ooh! loved those white cliffs) went through the English Channel to the North Sea to Norway. Bergen was our first stop (beautiful), then into Geirangerfjord to Geiranger, this is by far the most beautiful sailing of the trip and the excursion we took was AWESOME (Mt. Dalsnibba and Eagle Road), this excursion is not to be missed, fantastic!! The next stop was Alesund and we took the The Islands of Giske & Godoy excursion and were totally disappointed in it. Our last stop was Eidfjord, it was beautiful. The fjord was spectacular (nearly a beautiful as Geirangerfjord) We took the excursion Waterfalls and Waffles. Long bus ride up a mountain (we had an awesome guide, Debbie) to the café for the waffles, which were good, then the trip down to a viewpoint on a dam, then finally to the waterfalls and WOW!! The view is spectacular!! This trip to the waterfall is a must see!! All in all this trip was wonderful and I totally recommend it!!!! We were told that it rains over 240 days in Norway, but we were blessed to have sunny skies on the whole trip. May 31 thru June 7, 2014.
