During our recent visit to Egypt and Israel some in our crew were fortunate enough to visit the pyramids and also Jerusalem. The highlights of the Egypt tour were the Giza Pyramids, the Great Sphinx and also the Egyptian Museum. This photo shows the 41 crew members in front of the Great Sphinx and the pyramids.

Last month whilst the Prinsendam was in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, we held our New Hire and Service Award Luncheon in the La Fontaine Dining Room. We had 21 new hires in the company and eight service awards to present, including five 10-year awards, one 15-year award, one 20-year award, and one 35-year award. Our Senior Carpenter Heleno Cruz was the recipient of the 35-year award.

This was a great opportunity to welcome those that are starting their career with Holland America Line and also recognize those that have reached different milestones in their careers.

During our call to Parintins, Brazil, on March 4, Prinsendam under the direction of the Grand Voyage Hostess Annette Gonzalez had Father Benito, teachers and the children from Casa de Acholhida (a local art school) on-board.

Annette had arranged fund-raising activities during the Grand South America Voyage with guests and crew. The Prinsendam was successful in raising $6,500, which was then donated to the school for supplies and scholarships for students.

The teachers and children were treated to a specialty lunch hosted by the Culinary, Beverage and Dining Room teams. The children left with full bellies, great memories and lots of gifts from guests and crew. Father Benito presented Captain Tim Roberts with two paintings.

During our visit to Antarctica, while cleaning the outside decks of the snow, our sailors brought out their artistic nature and had some fun. This is one fish that definitely didn’t get away!

During Prinsendam‘s call at Samana, Dominican Republic on January 2nd, the medical department donated supplies and equipment to a local hospital. In the photos you can see the security and MAT team loading up the supplies into a tender.

At the end of Prinsendam‘s 14-day drydock in Freeport, Bahamas, a crew tour was arranged for under the ship. Those that had never seen or stood under a cruise ship went down for a look. Everyone took lots of pictures and enjoyed themselves. Here are some of the group shots.
