Half Moon Cay … A Return To Paradise

Journalist Georgina Cruz recently sailed on Zuiderdam and sent in this great post about her call at Half Moon Cay.

Somewhere, the mind knows intuitively, there is an island as easy as Sunday morning, as cool as a tropical fruit sorbet, and as fun as the playgrounds of our youth. Fortunate travelers find it at Half Moon Cay.

My husband Humberto and I had been lucky to enjoy visits to Half Moon Cay, Holland America’s private island in the Bahamas, on a half dozen occasions. But this 2,400-acre Bahamian idyll – where only 45 acres have been developed and the rest has been left pristine – with its crescent aquamarine beach and talcum-powder-quality white sands always leaves you wanting more.

The aquamarine waters of Half Moon Cay are inviting.

Wonderful Trip Aboard Eurodam

Thanks to passenger Dave Jones for sharing with us these wonderful pictures of his Caribbean cruise aboard Eurodam.

My wife and our two children completely enjoyed our week in the eastern Caribbean on the Eurodam February 16-23. I thought I’d share a couple of great photos. One is the Eurodam moored at Half Moon Cay and the other is with our Dining Stewards, Nurah and Teguh. We were treated like royalties and amazed by the service. We look forward to sailing with you again!

Views From the Verandah

Thanks to passengers Don and Linda Bair for sharing with us some great pictures from their cruise aboard Eurodam.

There are many spectacular sights aboard a HAL ship and among these is viewing a breathtaking sunrise or sunset from your private verandah.

This was our 13th cruise with Holland America and we love leaning over the railing on our verandah, feeling the ocean air on our faces and watching the sun and clouds make beautiful, unique shapes and contrasting colors.

Postcards from a Eurodam Cruise

Thanks to guest Scott Lara who recently sailed on Eurodam and sent in more fun photos from his cruise!

No wonder why Half Moon Cay has been voted number one private island by Porthole Magazine year after year! The white sand, the incredible blue water, the great water sports and even horses that take you for a ride in the ocean. Every time we return to Half Moon Cay it’s truly paradise and we never want to leave!

Cruise Diary: Half Moon Cay

Mike Faust, editor of Cruise Currents, recently sailed on board Eurodam for a seven-night eastern Caribbean cruise and chronicled his trip for us. What’s your favorite Caribbean port? Let us know in the comments below!

Cruising the Eurodam – Day 7 – Half Moon Cay

I woke up bright and early for the final day of our cruise. It was around 7:00 a.m. and we were still about an hour away from dropping anchor in Half Moon Cay, our final port of call. I used this time to just sit on my balcony and enjoy the passing islands and watching the warm waters of the Bahamas slip past me. Soon we were approaching Half Moon Cay and dropped anchor. The tenders began to arrive and the crew made their way ashore to prepare the island for us. Today was to be a tropical island retreat.

After a quick breakfast in the Lido Restaurant, we made our way down to board our tender to take us ashore. After a short wait, we were quickly sailing closer to Half Moon Cay in our tender. As soon as we were on shore we headed straight for the beach. We quickly found our way into the surprisingly cold water which quickly became warmer with the rising Bahamian sun. It was so relaxing to just kick back and relax on our final day. Except I couldn’t relax, because at 11:00 a.m. I would be parasailing 200 feet above the island. This is a problem for me since I have a minor fear of heights, but for some odd reason I picked the one excursion that would incorporate this fear into a cruise.
