Postcard from Iceland

Thanks to Facebook fans Marcia and Wayne Skinner for sending in this great post and beautiful photo from their recent cruise on Eurodam.

We just completed a cruise on the ‘mighty Eurodam’ in the North Atlantic from Amsterdam to New York. I wanted to make a special mention about how well our captain and cruise director kept us informed. This was especially true as we had to make our way through a couple of hurricanes. We learned so much about weather patterns and I for one certainly appreciated the way in which we were kept informed and well cared for.

Despite having to miss a couple of ports, the remainder of our trip was spectacular, especially Iceland and Greenland. My favorite picture was taken just as we left the Blue Lagoon as the moon was appearing over the lava laden land. Thanks to HAL and all the staff for a great trip! — Marcia

A Relaxing Day for Maasdam’s Crew in the Blue Lagoon

On Maasdam’s call at Reykjavik, 70 Maasdam crew members got to get off the ship to enjoy a warm and relaxing afternoon in Iceland’s most famous of geothermal spas, the Blue Lagoon. We all enjoyed bathing in the geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin, and also took advantage of the white silica mud that was available in the water as well. The bus ride back came too soon and some crew members decided to enjoy their stay a little longer and came back with public transportation instead. All in all everyone had a fabulous time and looked 10 years younger upon their return.

Explorer’s Scrapbook: The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik, Iceland is a magical place. Not only does it look like something out of a movie, but the milky seawater is supposed to have positive effects on your skin. The beautiful blue water against the gray rocks and sky made for some incredible scenery.

Explorer’s Scrapbook: IcaFjordur Iceland

How small my ship, how large my world — to stand on a ship and feel the Icelandic nature towering over you, is a once in a lifetime experience. I felt privileged to sail past untouched mountains and to hear the sound of silence.
